The stated purpose of PR 24-789 is to approve the proposed Chevy Chase Small Area Plan (SAP). The SAP was initiated by the Office of Planning in March 2021, a draft was made public on March 14, 2022, and a Mayoral hearing was held on April 26, 2022. The purpose of the small area plan is to set a community-informed vision for equitable and sustainable growth along the Connecticut Avenue, N.W. corridor in the Chevy Chase area. The vision is to facilitate housing production, especially affordable housing, and to improve connectivity and vibrancy through context-sensitive redevelopment. The Plan is based on the following core themes: inviting social and cultural character; equitable housing strategy; inclusive built environment; thriving retail corridor; reimagined civic core; and safe and sustainable mobility. Once approved, the SAP will provide supplemental guidance to the Zoning Commission and other District agencies in carrying out the policies of the Comprehensive Plan.
