Agenda (draft) for January 11 Meeting, with message

ANC 3/4G’s January 11, 2021 meeting will be devoted almost entirely to consideration of the DC Public School’s proposal to relocate Lafayette Elementary School’s Pre-K4 to 1375 Missouri, near Brightwood Elementary School. (The full draft agenda is below.) DCPS held community meetings on this relocation proposal on December 2nd and 9th, and the ANC heard from DCPS at its December 14th meeting.

The ANC’s upcoming meeting will be divided into three sections: (1) reporting on the results of the ANC’s survey of future Pre-K students’ parents (click here to start the survey), hearing how the Brightwood community views this proposal, and summarizing DCPS’s responses to the ANC’s questions (which are available at https://bit.ly/3914cZR); (2) statements by Lafayette parents about the proposed relocation followed by very brief comments from DCPS; and (3) the Commission’s discussion and possible vote on a resolution advising DCPS about the proposal.

We encourage affected parents — those with children who will start Pre-K4 within the next three years — to attend this meeting and to provide the ANC with their views. To ensure that we hear from as many people as possible, we ask three favors:

1. To speak at the meeting, email Lisa Gore at 3G01@anc.dc.gov. There will be a chance for those who don’t sign up in advance to speak, but only after those who do.

2. Limit your remarks to three minutes.

3. Curb the impulse to ask commissioners questions to maximize your speaking time and minimize ours.

Virtual Meeting Procedures: The ANC’s meetings are run with a few norms in mind, and we expect everyone to abide by these norms. They promote a civil and respectful discourse.

  1. Residents are encouraged to send any questions or comments to the Chair at 3G03@anc.dc.gov in advance of the meeting so that they can be addressed during the meeting.
  2. Except when they are recognized to speak, all attendees to the virtual meeting should mute their devices to avoid disruptions from background noises.
  3. Meetings will follow the agenda and the times listed there, with any modifications determined by the Chair.
  4. After a presenter completes his or her statement, Commissioners ask questions, and then residents have an opportunity to ask their questions or make comments.
  5. During meetings, residents should use the chat function to ask questions or to request to make a comment; they will then be recognized by the Chair.
  6. Speakers must limit any statements or questions to the time allotted. The Commission also accepts emailed and written comments or questions.
  7. Every resident will have an opportunity to be heard once on an issue before any resident is heard twice.
  8. We understand that sometimes issues may provoke strong emotions and that these expectations may be forgotten. Part of the Chair’s job is to remind you of these norms during the meeting.
